Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr., a policeman and Rita who was a educator at Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was born into the Baptist church, and attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah means gentle and very kind. The name was given by her cousin to her at the age of eight years old. Always a tall girl at 5'10, Latifah was a power forward for the basketball team at her high school. She performed the hit song Home from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah was a member of Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her journey into beatboxing. Latifah was member of the Flavor Unit - a group of rappers that joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded the rap of Queen Latifah, aka Princess of the Posse. The song was recorded and given to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. The song got the attention from Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who signed Latifah and released her debut track Wrath of My Madness.
